چکیده

The objective of the minimum toll revenue (MINREV) problem is to find tolls that simultaneously cause users to use the transportation network efficiently and minimize the total toll revenues that must be collected. This article investigates the Dantzig-Wolfe (DW) decomposition as an approach for solving the MINREV problem and establishes its relationships with a cutting plane algorithm and other proposed approaches. The article also identifies the variant of DW decomposition most suitable for implementation. Numerical experiments with real transportation networks suggest that DW decomposition is robust and should be used when the problems are too large for standard linear programming software. Although transportation planning is the application emphasized in this article, it should be noted that the MINREV problem also has applications in telecommunication network design and control. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Application of Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm Techniques to Solve Bi-level Congestion Pricing Problems

The solutions used to solve bi-level congestion pricing problems are usually based on heuristic network optimization methods which may not be able to find the best solution for these type of problems. The application of meta-heuristic methods can be seen as viable alternative solutions but so far, it has not received enough attention by researchers in this field. Therefore, the objective of thi...

Real-time congestion pricing strategies for toll facilities

This paper analyzes the dynamic traffic assignment problem on a two-alternative network with one alternative subject to a dynamic pricing that responds to real-time arrivals in a system optimal way. Analytical expressions for the assignment, revenue and total delay in each alternative are derived as a function of the pricing strategy. It is found that minimum total system delay can be achieved ...

Investment with Government Subsidies and Cost Contingency : The Case of Build - Operate - Transfer ( BOT ) Toll Road 1

Investment in toll road normally involves a portfolio of real options. We model a portfolio of real options with cost contingency and government subsidy at the operation stage. We demonstrate that the investment value is highly sensitive to cost and revenue uncertainties. Our numerical example suggests that the investment value of risky project is higher when net income guarantee is used instea...

AIRLINE STOCHASTIC CAPACITY ALLOCATION BY APPLYING REVENUE MANAGEMENT

To formulate a single-leg seat inventory control problem in an airline ticket sales system, the concept and techniques of revenue management are applied in this research. In this model, it is assumed the cabin capacity is stochastic and hence its exact size cannot be forecasted in advance, at the time of planning. There are two groups of early-reserving and late-purchasing customers demanding t...

A New Dynamic Programming Decomposition Method for the Network Revenue Management Problem with Customer Choice Behavior

In this paper, we propose a new dynamic programming decomposition method for the network revenue management problem with customer choice behavior. The fundamental idea behind our dynamic programming decomposition method is to allocate the revenue associated with an itinerary among the different flight legs and to solve a single-leg revenue management problem for each flight leg in the airline n...
